Summary: According to the Ministry of Education (MoE) database, from January 2006 to April 2008 there were 783 attacks of various kinds on schools in Afghanistan. 103 MoE district staff were shot dead, 110 students were killed at school or on their way home and 286 schools were set on fire. This study was conducted to understand the nature of attacks on girls' schools to suggest sustainable models for prevention, looking at community participation in particular.
